Overview

Participating in the Machine Learning role of the DBS Foundation Coding Camp organized by Dicoding was an incredibly enriching and enjoyable experience. The bootcamp was highly structured and intensive, filled with deep insights and hands-on learning. One of the highlights of the program was our mentor, Kak Maya, whose enthusiasm and dedication stood out. She consistently supported us, even beyond class hours, ensuring that every participant truly understood the material.

Thanks to my previous experiences in web development and data, I felt quite confident throughout the learning process. Many of the foundational concepts were familiar, but I also encountered a wealth of new knowledge, especially in applied machine learning, which sparked my curiosity even more. What I enjoyed most was working on the practical projects assigned in each module. These projects allowed me to directly implement the theories and tools we learned, making the learning process much more engaging and meaningful.

Findings

Throughout the program, I discovered the critical importance of GitHub documentation, both for personal and collaborative projects. Clear documentation not only helps others understand our work, but also allows us to reflect on our development journey and track changes efficiently. This became particularly evident when working in teams, where structured version control and good documentation ensured smooth collaboration.

I also found that I have a natural ability to mentor others, especially in explaining basic Machine Learning concepts. My peers often turned to me for help, and I was honored to be entrusted with the role of team leader during our group project. Leading a team in a technical and collaborative environment allowed me to further develop my communication, coordination, and leadership skills.

At the end of the bootcamp, we worked on a capstone project, where my team and I developed a web-based application called Kaloriku.” This AI-powered platform predicts the calorie content of various traditional Indonesian foods. The goal was to assist users, especially those managing their diet, in making informed decisions about their daily calorie intake. We trained a machine learning model using food images and nutritional data, and integrated the model into a user-friendly web interface.

This experience not only deepened my understanding of the end-to-end development of AI applications but also strengthened my passion for using machine learning to solve real-world problems. The bootcamp affirmed my desire to continue pursuing AI as a powerful tool for innovation in health, education, and society.
